We are home and this odyssey is over.  It was a challenging last few days . . . 

Las Vegas to Bakersfield, CA

It was beautiful drive.  We lived in the Mojave Desert a few years ago and I had forgotten how beautiful the desert can be.  We arrived in Bakersfield early than expected and decided to go to camping world and Costco.  It was an expensive decision...

We stopped at camping world to find a sewer pipe cap to replaced one that had cracked.  The cap isn't technically needed but I didn't want to see the inside.  It was an inexpensive cap so $6.59 later we were out the door and on our way to Costco for supplies.

I gave Roy wrong directions and we turned into a residential area.  Roy found a small cul-de-sac and managed to turn around.  What we didn't realize until we arrived at Costco we lost our backup camera on the trailer.  Turns out we crimped the cable and we lost trailer running lights and backup camera.  We could drive during the day so then it was finding a repair place on the way home.  The Bakersfield campsite was nice and no significant events.

Bakersfield, CA to Red Bluff, CA

We awoke in Bakersfield to strong winds.  We got on the road and after a few call we phone calls found a wonderful RV repair place - Fresno RV Country.  They saw to us straight away and had us back on the road in three hours and more than a few dollars lighter.  But we were whole again and back on the road.

Did you know that dust storms smell, especially through the farm fields? Also, if you talk when outside in a dust storm you get grit in your teeth. Flossing that night was a new adventure.😳

Did mention the strong winds that morning but I didn't mention the dust storm and 85 MPH gusts. Roy hung in there and drove all the way.  We arrived in Red Bluff at 9:30 PM and proceeded to set up for the night.  Did I mention that by now it was 41 degrees and we were in shorts and tee shirts.  We set up as fast as we could.  We have a great heating system in the trailer so we were very toasty and warm.  Needles to say, long pants the next morning.

The maintenance light on the truck came on when we started the truck. YIKES.  Again, on the phone finding a place to check out the truck.  I called just about every Toyota dealer in major cities between Red Bluff and Eugene, OR.  Thankfully we found a dealer in Grants Pass, OR.  Another two hour stop and we were back on the road.

We usually drive less than 300 miles a day but out last day was almost 600 miles.  It was an extra long day and a bit of gas shock too.  It was a $300.00 day for gas.  We ended the trip with a bang!!

Overall it was a wonderful adventure.  We learned more about RVing (save longer for gas and expenses) and a lot about the states along the way.  The best part of the trip was seeing friends and family along the way.  Some of the friends we hadn't seen for 25 years yet it seemed like it was just yesterday when we saw them last.  We laughed a lot and compared gray hair and various medications we are on.  Yep, it's true, we are officially old.

I'll start blogging again when we travel next.  Not sure when that will be but stay tuned.
